The Benefits of a Himalayan Salt Crystal Bath for Detoxification
A salt bath for detoxification of the body requires more salt than a bath solely for skin treatment. It is said that the detoxifying effects of a Himalayan salt crystal bath are the same as a three-day fast. Please be advised that while a salt bath is beneficial for many ailments, it is demanding on the circulatory system, so consult your physician if you have poor circulation. Also, be sure to rest 30 minutes after a salt bath, as it may cause you to feel sleepy afterwards.
Since a detox bath is more comprehensive than a normal salt bath for skin treatment, it is important to pay attention to detail when preparing it. Firstly, be sure the bath water temperature is about 97 degrees Fahrenheit, this temperature reduces strain on the body. Also, the bath will maintain a constant temperature, as the salt acts as a regulator. For proper osmosis to occur, the salt concentration in the water of a detox bath must at least be the same concentration as one of the body fluids, which is about 1%. To achieve this concentration, use about 1.2 ounces of salt per gallon of water. The average tub is about 30 gallons, so for an average tub you would want to use 2.6 pounds of salt per bath for a proper detox bath.
In addition to the detoxifying salt bath ridding the body of toxins, it will also help with various skin problems, water retention, gynecological diseases, rheumatism, joint pain, insect bites, blisters, wounds, skin irritations including those caused from poison oak, poison ivy, and poison sumac. Salt is a natural antiseptic, so it's benefits are very extensive.
